In 2001, Alta Vista became the first Argentine winery to produce and compare Single Vineyard Wines. Alta Vista developed its Terroir Management® system for wine growing and winemaking, wherein grapes grown in distinctive sites express the true characteristics of each vineyard through distinctive wines. Similar to Single Vineyard Alizarine and Serenade, Temis is aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels and an additional 6 months in bottle before release.
This vineyard is sited at over 3,000 feet in altitude in Valle de Uco, and the vines are over seventy years old. This light soil is sandy with some silt, is very permeable and has boulders and a broken layer of limestone at a depth of 2.5 feet. Traditional irrigation is fed by water from the Andes Mountains. Temis has the coldest climate of all Alta Vista’s terroirs. Nights are quite cool and days are warm and soft, with constant breezes that help to keep the vines and grapes healthy. The grapes have a slow, gradual cycle of ripeness that is balanced and ideal. Planted in 1942, the selection massale vines are characterized by small clusters with small, compact grapes. Wine from this vineyard has an expressive bouquet of fresh fruits with floral notes, and soft, suave tannins in the mouth.
"The Alta Vista single-vineyard wines are among the best in Argentina. This offers a soft, deep, alluring nose with plum, berry, minerality and a hint of rubber and/or bacon. It’s rich, pure and a bit jammy in feel, with saturated blueberry, blackberry, molasses and caramel flavors. A cuddly, long finish confirms this Malbec’s outstanding status. Editor's Choice." 94 points, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, August 2013
"The 2010 Alta Vista Single Vineyard Temis is located on a vein of chalk 120km south of Mendoza that was planted in 1950. The nose is ripe and lifted with macerated dark cherries, crushed violets and cassis. The palate has a succulent entry with lavish dark cherry and cassis fruit laced with white pepper and a touch of sage. It builds nicely in the mouth towards a voluminous finish with gentle grip. Excellent." 93 points, Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate, November 2012
"Inky and powerful, yet vibrant, with bright acidity pushing along layer after layer of kirsch, cassis and macerated fig notes, as its darker, spice-filled personality emerges in the long savory finish." 93 points, Nathan Wesley, Wine Spectator, October 2012
