Blackwater Distillery aims to create great whiskies and superb gins using the best local ingredients. They do everything by hand so they make the whiskies and gins in small batches the old fashioned way – no scrimping, no cheating, no colours, no flavourings.
The distillery is located in West Waterford. The rich soil between the Knockmealdown and Comeragh Mountains in the north and the Atlantic Ocean in the south is where some of Ireland’s finest oats and barley are grown. In the thin band of land that is the Blackwater Valley, it has usually just rained, is raining, or is about to rain. Almost everything eventually flows into “An Abhainn Mhór” (The Big River), nowadays known as The Blackwater.
