The Bushmills Millenium Malts were an innovation by the Old Bushmills Distillery which were released during their time as part of the Irish Distillers Ltd portfolio.
In 1975, there was a selection of ex-bourbon casks filled with Bushmills Malt whiskey and set aside only to be bottled for the Millenium. Private investors were then invited to purchase the full casks, which many did, either on their own or as part of syndicates. They were promised a yeild of at least 200 bottles per cask, which would be custom labelled with a name of their choosing.
Although, these whiskeys were never intended for the retail market, many people down through the years have sold on their bottles to retail outlets or on auctions. A small number of casks went unnamed which makes the bottles all the more valuable in our opinion.
There is also known to be a number of bottles labelled as 'The Angel's Share', this was to mark when a cask had yielded more than the required 200 bottles.
