Bordeaux is the world's largest wine region with 120,000 hectares of vines spread across more than 7500 producers. Simply put, it can be divided into two parts, the Left Bank famous for its Cabernet Sauvignon based wine and the Right Bank that is dominated by Merlot.
The canelé (pictured here) is a cake from Bordeaux and part of Aquitaine’s culinary heritage. Its history is strongly linked with the region's wine as egg whites were used in the wine's fining process. The unneeded egg yolks were given to the nuns to make cakes and thus, the canelé was born.
