- 100% Viognier
In 1985, Marc and Dominique Rouvière purchased a 5.5 hectare property in Chavanay, in the heart of Condrieu in the Northern Rhône, which they named 'Domaine du Chêne'. They now have 16 hectares of vineyards with an average vine age of 35 years.
They have 3.5 hectares of Viognier in Condrieu and seven hectares of Syrah in Saint-Joseph. The next generation, son Julien and daughter Anaïs, have taken over responsibility for the vineyards and winemaking respectively. Like their parents, the brother and sister team are dedicated to producing top quality wines from outstanding estate-grown fruit that are true expressions of their regions. Influenced by their time working in California and New Zealand, they are increasingly concerned with sustainability and have reduced their use of spraying and are researching the use of sheep for weed removal in their Condrieu parcels, located on very steep granitic slopes.
The Viognier grapes for the Condrieu were hand harvested and fermented half in tank and half in oak, providing weight and complexity while still preserving the delicate primary stone fruit aromas of Viognier.
