Grosset 'Springvale' Riesling

Availability: In stock

There are attractive lime and lemon blossom aromas with an underlying chalky minerality; a supple mid-palate showing more generosity than its sibling, yet tight and fine, leading to an expressive finish that is vibrant, crisp and has wonderful length. It's neatly balanced, minerally and delightfully dry.

Grosset Springvale Clare Valley Riesling
More information:

Jeffrey Grosset has been making some of Australia's best Riesling for the last 35 years. He established his winery in 1981 in the historic township of Auburn, Clare Valley, 100 kilometres north of Adelaide.

The winery is stylish and functional and reflects the attention to detail that extends to the Grosset estate-owned vineyards and winemaking. He hand picks and is meticulous not only in his selection but also in the way he treats the grapes once they arrive at the winery. The vineyards which are ACO certified organic are hand tended, while in the winery the winemaking process is gentle and uncomplicated. With the winery also certified to process organic fruit, all wines from Grosset's own vineyards carry the ACO logo from the 2014 vintage. No oak, no malo, no lees contact - it is all down to the fruit and the way it is treated and interpreted.

Jeff is best known for his iconic Rieslings and he has almost single-handedly been responsible for the renaissance of Clare Riesling. The 'Springvale' Riesling is classic Clare - elegant and restrained, while the 'Polish Hill' Riesling is more powerful and intense. This difference is solely attributable to the uniqueness of each of the vineyards. The Polish Hill vineyard is situated at an altitude of 460m above sea level on a low vigour, shale site. The berries are smaller and more concentrated than those from Watervale, and the harvest usually takes place in early April, a few weeks later than Watervale. The Springvale vineyard is on limestone soil and is situated in the north-eastern part of this sub-region, at its highest point..
