Viña Herminia Tempranillo Rioja
More information:
The origin of the name dates back to the admiration that Mr. Joaquín Lagunilla Artacho professed for his wife, Mrs. Herminia Casas Madorrán, for whom he dedicated a vine named after her on his property in the municipality of Cenicero, La Rioja.

In 1885, at only 20 years old, his father, Mr. Felipe Lagunilla San Martín, founded Bodegas Lagunilla. He had one daughter, Mrs. Casilda Lagunilla Artacho and a son, Mr. Joaquín Lagunilla Artacho, who took over the winery in 1927. Under his leadership, he established labels such as Vallezarza, Valderrín and most important to us, Viña Herminia in 1949, founded in honour of his wife.

Finally at the end of the ‘90s, the Grupo Caballero, decided to enter the world of La Rioja wines. In doing so, they contacted Viñedos de Aldeanueva S. Coop. creating the Bodegas Viña Herminia, SL in December 1997.

The winery is fully equipped and has a modern building constructed in the form of an H, symbolizing the initial of the Herminia brand, which is home to 8,000 American French and Eastern Europe oak barrels.
La Rioja is divided into three different areas: Upper La Rioja, Alavesa and Lower La Rioja. This last area where Viña Herminia is located has a clear advantage: Altitude.

The best La Rioja wines owe their quality to altitude, benefitting from the vast differences between the day and nighttime temperatures, which allow the grapes to develop a significant complexity and quality.

At the border of the Lower La Rioja lie the foothills of the Pyrenees. Due to the altitude and orientation, certain slopes enjoy considerable sunshine throughout the day, which means relatively high temperatures during the day in contrast to intense cold at night, offering optimal conditions for producing exceptional quality grapes.
Wine making and aging
The highest respect for centuries-old traditions and elaboration methodologies, combined with the best terroir in addition to the application of the latest technology for controlling fermentation and the aging process summarizes the daily working philosophy that Viña Herminia employs in producing our wines.

The goal is to create La Rioja wines of the highest caliber. This ambitious proposal has been a successful venture from the very beginning. The results are stylish wines whose excellence is celebrated through the numerous awards and national and international recognition they have achieved.

Another important factor in the quality of Viña Herminia wines is the aging in oak barrels, which have an average of 3 years’ use, imparting tannins and a range of nuances depending on the oak’s origin- primarily American, French and Eastern Europe.
