Dark mahogany colour with bronze hues. Concentrated aromas of smoky, dried fruits, mocha, cacao and toffee. Very complex on the palate, with clean acidity.  Unforgetable flavours of raisins, nuts and candied orange.

Serve between 12-13ºC in a white wine glass. This wine is a perfect companion to light desserts and cakes, but can also be served with blue cheeses.

More information:

As part of the Especialidades category reserved for some of Lustau’s most exceptional wines, East India is distinguished and unique because of its age and the particular manner in which it is produced.

One of the great icons of Lustau, its aging process mimics that of some 17th century wines developed during transatlantic journeys to distant Spanish colonies. In centuries gone by, casks of sherry were lashed to ships sailing for the Indies as ballast and were found to develop an extraordinary smoothness and complexity. Lustau has revived this style of sherry in the East India wine.

To achieve this, after aging separately in their own soleras, the Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez that comprise it, are combined and undergo a second aging process in a solera of 33 barrels at the Sacristía de Bodegas Lustau, with its elevated humidity and temperatures that replicate the climatic conditions that the wines would have experienced on their journeys.

Emilio Lustau, one of Spain's greatest Sherry bodegas, is named after Don Emilio Lustau Ortega, son-in-law of founder Don José Ruiz-Berdejo y Veyan. Don José, of French descent, founded the family firm in 1896 at his home in Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza, but in the 1940s Don Emilio moved the firm to the Santiago district of Jerez. The firm saw significant expansion, and joined the ranks of the top Sherry producers under Don Emilio's name. The family home was never abandoned, though, and in the 1970s extensive cellars were constructed there. Emilio Lustau is now a leader in Sherry production, certainly when judged on quality.

"The dark amber-hued non-vintage East India Solera is essentially an old Oloroso blended with an old Pedro Ximenez, which gives it a sweet character. It offers more mature notes of maple syrup, brown sugar, spice box, raisin and chocolate beer nuts, and its terrific balancing acidity cuts through the sweetness. This delicious effort is best drunk after the meal."  96 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Caramel, dried figs and raisins on nose. Savoury notes on the mid palate lead to rich honey notes to finish."  Bronze Medal, Decanter World Wine Awards 2012
