WINNER! World's Best Single Pot Still Whiskey!
-World Whiskies Awards

Their origins rooted in history, two stories of Irish endeavour and enterprise intertwine and together are the inspiration for this special edition whiskey - Green Spot Château Léoville Barton. Initially matured in traditional sherry and bourbon casks, Green Spot Château Léoville Barton was then finished in French oak wine casks, adding an exciting new dimension to this Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey already renowned for its excellent quality.

Celebrating an Irish heritage, the collaboration between Green Spot and Château Léoville Barton is not just the coming together of two unique stories, it is the fusion of two unique histories that as one deliver an exceptional whiskey.

Nose: It is the contribution of the French oak which drives the initial aroma adding some crisp woodland notes to the spicy Single Pot Still character. The wine seasoning brings a delicate touch of floral perfume and a hint of ripe berries such as raspberries and strawberries, these are in addition to the orchard fruits typical of Green Spot.

Taste: The familiar mouth coating effect is a very satisfying balance of oak and spices. Some vanilla sweetness works in harmony with the dry wine influence, while the fresh orchard fruits and French oak combine effortlessly with barley grains to complete the complexity.

Finish: The rich French oak character is slow to fade leaving the wine and spices of France and Ireland with the last word.

The Mitchell Story

The story of the Mitchell family begins in 1805 when William Mitchell arrived in Dublin seeking his fortune. His eye caught by an exceedingly fine premises on Grafton Street, a deal was done and it wasn’t long before the entrepreneurial Mr. M was selling tea, port and cakes to the great and the good of Dublin city, including its most refined ladies. Hungry for more success, in 1887 and now trading as Mitchell & Son, the family bought a second Dublin property, 21 Kildare Street, and went into the whiskey bonding business. Whiskey bonders filled their own casks with spirit from their local distilleries and sold it under their own brand name.

The Mitchell’s brand was originally known as Pat Whiskey but in time would become Green Spot. Though whiskey bonding eventually died out, Green Spot lives on to this day, its longevity, not to mention its enduring excellence, earning it a unique and special place in the history of Irish whiskey distilling.

Today, Green Spot is made from 7 to 10 year old Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, matured and bottled at our Midleton Distillery. And it is this survivor that we have chosen to craft Green Spot Château Léoville Barton. Which brings us on to the second of our stories...

The Wine Geese & Château Léoville Barton

Our second story begins with Ireland’s so-called ‘Wine Geese’. Their name was inspired by the ‘Wild Geese’- soldiers who left Ireland to fight in the armies of continental Europe in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. But the ‘Wine Geese’ made wine not war and, migrating to all four corners of the globe, they established and nurtured wineries whose produce would one day be amongst the most revered in the world. Wines like Château Léoville Barton. Château Léoville Barton comes from the very heart of the Saint Julien appellation in Bordeaux, one of the best winemaking regions in the world. The seeds of its success were sown in the late 1700s by Fermanagh man, Thomas Barton - also known as French Tom - and it is Thomas’s descendant, Anthony Barton, who today tends to the historic vineyards, making sure that, from grape to glass, elegance and finesse continue to define Château Léoville Barton. Just as they have for centuries.

Green spot to a new level of enjoyment Review by AJ
This new green spot has taken a great Irish whisky to a whole new level of smoothness and flavor. This is a must have for any person loving Irish Whisky. A drop of water or a cube of ice just makes this whisky come alive with fruity flavor and hints of oak and vanilla. A true enjoyment from the first sip to the last. (Posted on 20/07/2015)
