Yellow Spot 12 year old

Availability: In stock

Yellow Spot 12 year old Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is proudly produced exclusively for Mitchell & Son Wine Merchants, Dublin, where the brand originated. This whiskey contains single pot still compenents aged in ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and ex-malaga wine casks. This maturation gives an added layer of complexity compared with its younger sibling Green Spot, but delves into the more complex aspects of the Single Pot Still Spirit.

Aromas of mown hay, cracked black pepper, nutmeg, clove oil and green tea. Sweet honey and peaches from the Malaga casks.

Pot still spices, honey and red apple combine with flavours of creme brulee, fresh coffee and toasted oak all evident throughout. Sophisticated and complex with a distinctive honeyed character and a mix of red grape and dry barley on the finish.

More information:

Inspired by the original Yellow Spot and last bottled in the 1950s, Yellow Spot is the rare taste of a bonder’s style Single Pot Still Irish whiskey.

Rather than being simply a finished whiskey, Yellow Spot is special in that it contains single pot still whiskey that has been matured for a full 12 year period in three oak cask types: American bourbon barrels, Spanish sherry butts and uniquely, Spanish Malaga casks. Bottled at 46% ABV, the influence of the Malaga cask brings an exotic sweet note to the whiskey making it a truly delightful taste experience.

Yellow Spot 12 Year Old Irish Whiskey had not been seen in whiskey shops since the early 1960s. It was originally part of Mitchell & Son Wine Merchant’s ‘Spot’ range of whiskeys which included Blue, Green, Yellow and Red Spot. These names were derived from the Mitchell’s practice of marking their maturing casks of whiskey with a mark or daub of coloured paint to determine the age potential of the whiskey. Blue Spot was an 8 year old, Green a 10, Yellow a 12 and Red Spot a 15 year old.
