The exceptional character of The Glenlivet spirit is apparent even before the cask ageing process begins, a result of the unique lantern shaped pot stills we use at The Glenlivet. For The Glenlivet Founder's Reserve, skilful selection of casks enhances the signature fruity flavours of The Glenlivet with traditional oak casks being complemented by selective use of American first-fill casks to give a hint of creamy sweetness – creating an exceptionally well-balanced and smooth malt.
The Glenlivet distillery is near Ballindalloch in Moray in Scotland. It is the oldest legal distillery in the parish of Glenlivet, and the production place of the Scottish whisky of the same name.
It is described in packaging and advertising as "The single malt that started it all".
It was founded in 1824 and has operated almost continuously since. The distillery remained open throughout the Great Depression and its only closure came during World War II. The Glenlivet distillery has grown in the post-war period to become one of the biggest single malt distilleries in order to keep up with global demand.
