Château Palmer 2005

Availability: In stock

Deep purple colour with black reflections. The nose explodes on notes of great complexity combining morello cherry and macerated prune, oriental spices, sandalwood, incense, leather, cedar, peppermint, violet, blond tobacco with honey. The fruit is so opulent that the richness in the nose is answered by opulence in the mouth, structured by sumptuous tannins allied to sovereign freshness. The wine has imperious presence and is already glistening. Velvety and suave, the length lingers forever. The vintage is wholly contained in this Palmer that epitomizes Palmer at its best: breed, balance and elegance.

More information:

Domaine de Palmer was established in the first half of the nineteenth century by the English general, Charles Palmer. In 1814, on his way back from the Peninsular War where he had fought with Wellington against Napoleon, General Palmer acquired Château de Gascq andgave it his own name.

In 1938, the Sichel family joined forces with a group of wine merchant friends to purchasethe property.

Today, the vines of Château Palmer (AOC Margaux) cover a surface of 52 hectares of croupes (knolls) of Garonne gravel and are made up of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot. This combination of soil and grape varieties hasbeen the greatest asset of Château Palmer (3ème Cru Classé) from its earliest beginnings.
At Château Palmer, tradition and evolving techniques have always gone hand in hand, andalways with respect for the typical characteristics of this outstanding terroir.

Highly reputed worldwide, the wines of Château Palmer rank among the most prestigious of Bordeaux and are coveted by keen wine enthusiasts the world over.

"The 2005 Château Palmer (53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot), is one of the great efforts of this superlative vintage. Floral notes mixed with blackberry, cassis, plum, licorice and spring flowers soar from the glass of this dense ruby/purple wine. It is medium to full-bodied, surprisingly opulent (it has a big percentage of Merlot), long multidimensional and textured. This wonderfully pure, stunning wine once again performs as a first-growth. It should drink well for the next 20-25 years."  98 points, Robert Parker
