- 100% Prosecco
The wine estate dates back to the mid 18th Century when Bartolomeo Bortolomiol started to grow grapes on the hillsides of Valdobbiadene. He passed on his passion to his son Giuliano who enrolled at the prestigious Conegliano Wine School. After the Second World War, the sight of the abandoned vines led to Giulano’s desire to bring them back to life and make Prosecco become a prestigious sparkling wine. As a master of the Martinotti-Charmat method and great experimenter, he eventually created the first Prosecco Brut in 1960.
Today, Giuliano’s wife and his four daughters are at the helm of the estate. Together they have invested a great deal of energy and resources into ensuring quality and maintaining the company’s strong links to the land and its history.
From their sense of responsibility as a leading producer of Prosecco Superiore and also fruit of a project for the creation of sustainable agriculture, Bortolomiol is experimenting with a new approach to growing – organic agriculture – in their own vineyards in the heart of Valdobbiadene. This is because they understand that the land must be protected so as to be passed on to future generations in the best possible health.
"We’ve been using organic wine-growing techniques for many years, converting our family vineyards, located in the heart of Valdobbiadene within the Parco della Filandetta, to meet EU standards for organic wine growing. We firmly believe in the principles of sustainability and total respect for the environment. Doing everything by hand means that organic wine growing has become synonymous with the intrinsic qualities and natural characteristics of the Terroir. This is why one of the highest quality wines embodying the traditional flavours of Prosecco Superiore is our IUS NATURAE. We chose the Brut because of its more international appeal, Millesimato so as to highlight the characteristics of each and every harvest in keeping with the Ius Naturae, or “natural law”, upon which every human law is based."
