For 25 years Nyetimber has had a single aim: to make the finest English sparkling wine, one to rival the very best in the world. A true pioneer, Nyetimber was the very first producer of English sparkling wine to craft wines made exclusively from Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. In 1988, Nyetimber planted its first vines and today, the House is regarded as one of England’s finest wine producers. First mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086, Nyetimber Manor was famously given to Anne of Cleves by Henry VIII in 1540.

In 2012, Nyetimber Classic Cuvee was selected to be served on the Royal Barge as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.  The 152 hectares of vineyard benefit from a special, sheltered microclimate. Being planted on the north side of the South Downs, they are well protected from the southerly coastal winds. The soils are a continuation of the limestone basin stretching from Champagne to the south of England and ensure excellent drainage and low vigour. The gentle slopes are fully exposed to the sun, which helps in this marginal climate. A lot of time is spent in the vineyard, managing vigour to ensure good flavour concentration, and de-leafing the vine to maximise the exposure of the grapes to sunlight. 

Owner and Chief Executive Eric Heerema and Winemaker Cherie Spriggs are committed to producing wines of a Grande Marque standard, hence all wines are produced from one hundred percent estate-grown grapes. Nyetimber ages the wines on their fine lees, as per the traditional style and only makes a Vintage Brut style. In 2012, they released the first ever English Demi-sec sparkling wine.
