Wine is grown in many areas of the Australian continent with the best wines being produced mainly in the southern, cooler parts of the country. The most prestigious vineyards are located in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia, and Tasmania.
Due to the widely varied climate and terroir available across Australia, the country is more adept than most at growing many different grapes, predominantly; Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Semillon, Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc.
