Like red ales and ambers, brown ales are defined by their colour rather than a historical, regional, or ingredient-based classification. Brown ales vary in alcohol strength but are generally lightly hopped, mild in flavour, and brewed mostly from brown malt. While brown ale may not be the trendiest style of beer, they do have a lot to offer and can be some of the best beers to pair with food.
