Hybrid beers styles straddle the qualities of more than one traditional style of beer in both their production and subsequent beer drinking experience.
The California common is brewed with lager yeast but fermented at higher ale fermentation temperatures, having originated at a time when refrigeration was a luxury. A typical example is light amber in colour, medium-bodied, mildly fruity with a malty flavour and kick of hops. Also known as 'steam' beer, this style was made famous by the Anchor Brewing Company.
