The Douro is Portugal's most famous wine region. Centred on the Douro River, the area is most well known for its Port production. The region produces as much non-fortified wine as it does Port including some outstanding full-bodied, tannic, age-worthy red wines and rich, crisp, minerally whites. With a strong history dating back to beyond Roman times, this beautiful region is so impressive UNESCO named it a world heritage site.
