When ordinary beer wouldn't survive the journey to India, a new pale ale was born. Created in England with a higher alcohol content and more hops, the IPA style had the preservatives necessary to sustain the freshness of the liquid during its long journey to India where it became the preferred export among the British troops stationed there during the colonial period.
