LQLC Les Quelles de la Coste 'les 7 Quelles'

Referring to numerous wells (‘quelles’) scattered about the property, Les Quelles de la Coste is owned by John Malkovich and his partner, film director Nicoletta Peyran. The pair have lived here since the 1980s, only beginning a wine making project in 2008.

John, a long-time wine lover and a bit of a maverick, rejected mourvèdre and grenache and instead planted his favourites, pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon. The altitude of the Luberon works in his favour, as the cool nights promote elegance in the thin-skinned pinot noir while capturing ripeness during the day.

An uncommon blend of Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Matured in old 225-litre French oak casks for eight months. Notes of sous bois and brambly, briar fruit add a sense of wildness to black fruit aromas. Medium-bodied but packed with fruit; silky tannins are balanced by fresh acid and a hint of chamois leather on the lingering black cherry finish. Thoroughly quaffable.
