Ribera del Duero is a Spanish wine region that occupies an elevated northern plateau of the Iberian Peninsula along the course of the Duero river. The region is characterised by a largely flat, rocky terrain which produces extremely long-lived wines emanating from the limestone in the soils. Ribera del Duero produces only red wine focusing on Tinto Fino, more commonly known as Tempranillo, Spain's most popular grape.
