Argentina is the world's 5th largest producer of wine and historically was more concerned with quantity than quality. However, in the 1990s, a desire to expand onto the global markets fuelled significant advances in quality.
Best known for Malbec, Argentina also produces fantastic examples of Torrontes, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon and other international grape varieties. The key wine regions of Argentina include Mendoza, responsible for more than 60% of production, as well as Salta, San Juan, La Rioja, Catamarca and Rio Negro.
