Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche VV Grand Cru 2018

Based in Morey-Saint-Denis, Laurent Ponsot has run the estate since 1983. He spends most of his time in the vineyard. For him, healthy grapes are the most important component in the making of very good wine. In general, the beginning of his harvest starts later than his neighbouring producers. He waits until the grape has reached full maturity and  sometimes even longer. He has only one rule in his vinification process: not to follow any rules. His wines are powerful, rich with a lot of flavours and aromas.

"It's fascinating to taste the two components of this superb wine, grown only 50 metres apart, as well as the finished blend to see that the pair are much greater than the sum of their parts. Retaining acidity and focus in a hot year, this is a refined, violet-perfumed Pinot Noir that combines sensuous texture and fruit sweetness with acidity and underlying tannic structure. Domaine Ponsot is flourishing under the new régime." 97 points, Decanter
