Straight Pinot Meunier remains a rarity in Champagne but in the hands of Egly-Ouriet it is something special. Low yields, old vines and ripe fruit make this one of the most intense Meunier wines kicking around. Spicy, fruity, fleshy, yet very dry and mineral.
100% Pinot Meunier from a single, 40 year old south-facing vineyard in Vrigny, a commune located on the Petite Montagne de Reims. This wine spends 40 months on the lees and is bottled without filtration. While it is labelled as a Brut, the dosage is 4 g/L putting it squarely in Extra Brut territory.
"The NV Brut Les Vignes de Vrigny 1er Cru is bright and chiseled, with terrific cut to balance the natural richness of the Meunier. White flowers, mint, orchard fruit and almonds add layers of complexity, but it is the wine's energy that is especially compelling." 92 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, December 2017.
"Egly-Ouriet crafts one of Champagne's most flattering single-vineyard Pinot Meuniers, faithfully translating every detail of the succulent depth of this grape's enticing full golden yellow hue and its fleshy Mirabelle plum, red cherry, dried pear and grapefruit character." 95 points, Tyson Stelzer, The Champagne Guide.
