The Pira vineyard is a historic vineyard of Castiglione Falletto, the central village in the Barolo area. Owned by the noble family, in past centuries it was directly connected to the castle by a private road.
Luca Roagna (often hailed as one of the most promising young winemakers by wine critics) represents the latest generation to work in this historical estate, alongside his genial father Alfredo. The wine estate's 15 hectares of vine cover both Barbaresco and Barolo areas of wine production.
Luca makes wines of incredible quality, expression and intensity. The 2014 vintage is firm yet very expressive with beautiful purity of fruit. Notes of cherries, raspberries and rose petal with a lovely, earthy backbone. The palate is similar to the nose with the addition savoury spices. This bottle is perfect for drinking now but it also has so much more to give over the next few years.
