The Farrside By Farr Pinot Noir is one of the wines of the line looked after by Gary, the founder of this Australian family estate. The Farrs are winemakers deeply influenced by their experiences in Burgundy. Gary Farr runs the estate alongside his son Nick, although they look after two separate lines of production in order to autonomously express their own views as well as their personal taste.

Gary Farr describes the style of his wines as the ones he likes to drink and this Pinot Noir is no exception. The wine is named after the vineyard Farrside, a northeast-facing slope, characterised by a limestone soil topped with black volcanic rocks. The first vines were planted in 2001.

Gary Farr privileges ageing his Pinot Noir in French oak. Farrside wine spends around 18 months in barrels, 60% of them made from new wood: it’s a far higher percentage than any other wine made in the Farr estate, possibly a heritage of Gary’s youth in Burgundy at Domaine Dujac.

A firm structure with savoury components. A balanced array of red and black fruit. Deep meaty, spicy and mineral notes evolve mid-palate. This is a firm yet delicate wine with a long, textured finish.
