Hirsch is the pioneer vineyard on the ‘True’ Sonoma Coast. Planted from 1980 by David Hirsch, two miles from the ocean at Ft. Ross (AVA) in Sonoma County, the vineyard first became known from wines of Williams Selyem, Kistler, Littorai, and others. The on-site winery was started in 2002, and winemaker Anthony Filiberti has joined the team to craft some of the most compelling wines of this ‘grand cru’ quality vineyard. Every effort has been made to integrate the wine making with the farming to produce wines that have site typicity: rich pinot fruit married to a profound acidic complexity finished with deep, evolved natural tannins.

The Raschen Ridge Pinot Noir is the result of this observation and patience. Year after year, the blocks were taste tested to confirm that indeed, this was a singular expression within the Hirsch Vineyard that should be bottled on its own. Finally in 2014 the first vintage of this wine was produced.

Made from the highest elevation vineyards at Hirsch, the Raschen Ridge is where the marine, riverine and continental climates meet, merging heat & coolness, moisture and dryness, uplift and erosion. The wine is itself an exercise in resolved opposites: sexy and serious, drinkable and age-worthy, for both the hedonist and the collector.

Henry Raschen (1854–1937) was a painter of the American West who lived on the ranch that is now Hirsch Vineyards. Old-timers called it the Raschen Place, and Henry’s house stood there until 1954.

"With ripe, succulent and velvety red fruits flavours, this is the most forward of Hirsch's 2018 Pinots. Herbal, beaming and energetic aromas continue from through to the long finish, which shows off persistent, elegant tannins. This expressive, livewire wine comes from high-density, 20-year-old vines at 480m – the highest elevation vineyards planted at Hirsch." 95 points (2018 vintage), Decanter
