Picariello’s Irpinia Fiano is a declassified version of Fiano di Avellino from estate-bottled fruit. This base level Fiano is perfect for immediate drinking. Lively and bracing, redolent of apple, white peach and hazelnut, with a flinty minerality. Drinks beautifully with cheeses, pastas, and light roasted meats. Cult winery Picariello makes some of the best and most age worthy fiano in Italy. More recently falanghina and greco vines have been planted, completing the trifecta of Campanian white varieties.

With vineyards in the prized Summonte and Montefredana areas in the Avellino region – distinctly cool-climate, high-elevation areas – Picariello’s hands-off approach to winemaking allows the nuances of the vineyards to reveal themselves. In youth, the fiano shows typical bright lemon and white peach flavours with a distinct mineral cut from the volcanic soils, but with a bit of age it develops waxy, honeyed aromas and a toasted hazelnut character.
