With no aging in oak barrels, this young Malbec breaks all the rules. A dangerously drinkable bright, perfumed, medium-weight red with succulent, refreshing blueberry and red cherry fruit. A refreshingly different take on this grape. Delightfully gluggable and delicious to drink slightly chilled on a hot day!

Bodega Krontiras was established by Greek couple Silvina and Constantinos in 2004 with a view to making pure, terroir-driven expressions of Argentinean wines. In high altitude Mendoza they purchased ancient 120 year old vineyard in the high quality Perdriel sector of Lujan de Cuyo and established a new vineyard in Maipu. Both were rapidly converted to organics in 2009, before becoming fully biodynamic in 2012; one of the first wineries in Argentina to achieve this. In addition to Malbec, they make some old vine Tempranillo, Petit Verdot and a brilliant Aglianico, which they have planted widely and seems quite at home in Mendoza.

The winery has been built along biodynamic principles, using straw for insulation and biodynamic geometric principles based on 'sacred geometry' to enhance the gentle evolution of the wines. Winemaker Maricruz Antolín is widely regarded as a rising star of the Argentinean wine scene, tipped by Tim Atkin MW as a talent to watch in his recent review of the region. The winery contains conical stainless steel tanks to aid seamless extraction, and a combination of 225 and 500 litre French oak barrels. Where oak is used, it plays only a supporting role to the exceptional quality fruit coming in from the vineyards.

All the wines are certified organic, biodynamic and vegan, with a focus on elegance and purity in a varied range of styles.

Malbec (100%)

Malbec is a dark-skinned grape variety best known today for its bold, fruit-driven wines. Originally from southwest France, it was historically one of the six permitted grapes in Bordeaux blends and the signature grape of Cahors, where it is often called Côt or Auxerrois. In France, Malbec tends to produce structured, tannic wines with deep colour, notes of dark berries, plum, spice, and a distinctive earthy edge. Malbec found a second home in Argentina in the mid-19th century, where the sunny climate and high-altitude vineyards of Mendoza gave it a new identity. There it produces supple, generous wines with ripe black fruit, smooth tannins, and vibrant freshness, making it an international favourite. Today, Malbec is celebrated for its versatility — capable of both approachable, juicy wines perfect for everyday enjoyment, and complex, age-worthy examples that rival the world’s great reds.
