Badenhorst 'Secateurs' Chenin Blanc

Most of the Secateurs Chenin vines were planted the 1960s. The first Secateurs Chenin Blanc bottled under the Badenhorst Family Wines range was in 2009 and marked the start of a continuing affair with this most wonderful grape. The wine spends some time on its lees in concrete tanks and this important part of the maturation of the wine shows in the incredible texture and palate weight of this wine

The aromas are flinty with peaches, honey, orange blossom and white stone fruit notes. A small proportion of the wine is fermented in oak adding to the silky texture of this wines.

"The 2018 Secateurs Chenin Blanc, which Adi described as "the most fun wine to make," comes from 28 different parcels, of which 17 are over 50 years old, on granite soils in the Paardeberg Mountains. It has a well defined bouquet of lemon curd and light white flower aromas. It is slightly viscous on the entry, very pure with fine acidity, and honeyed toward the finish, to the point where it could almost be a dessert wine (I could imagine this pairing wonderfully with a hard cheese). Given the price point, this is brilliant Chenin Blanc and an outstanding value." 90 points, Neal Martin
