Bedoba was created to showcase the character of traditional Georgian varieties through a contemporary style of winemaking. Its name translates approximately as “day of luck” or “day of destiny”, referring to the Georgian celebration of Bedoba on 2 January, when it is believed that the way the day unfolds can influence the year ahead. The wines combine Georgia’s remarkable winemaking heritage with a polished, modern approach designed to bring indigenous grapes such as Saperavi to a wider audience.

Saperavi (100%)

Saperavi is Georgia’s most important indigenous red grape and one of the relatively rare teinturier varieties, meaning both its skins and flesh contain pigment. It produces deeply coloured wines with flavours of blackberry, black cherry and plum, often accompanied by spice, earth and floral notes. Naturally high acidity and firm tannins give Saperavi impressive structure and excellent ageing potential.

Kakheti - in eastern Georgia is the country’s most important wine producing region and the historic heartland of Saperavi. Its continental climate, warm summers and varied soils provide excellent conditions for deeply flavoured red wines. Kakheti is also closely associated with Georgia’s ancient qvevri tradition, in which wine is fermented and matured in large clay vessels buried underground.
