Based in Morey-Saint-Denis, Domaine Ponsot was founded in 1872 by William Ponsot, has a storied history marked by innovation and tradition. Initially known for its pioneering efforts in bottling wines under its own label and contributing to the establishment of the Appellations d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) system, the estate has consistently emphasized sustainable viticulture and genetic diversity through massal selection. Today, Domaine Ponsot is celebrated for its exceptional Pinot Noir and unique Aligoté wines. The estate’s commitment to preserving soil health and traditional winemaking techniques, combined with a forward-thinking approach, ensures its wines are highly regarded and sought after globally. This blend of historical significance and modern excellence makes Domaine Ponsot a standout in Burgundy.
Laurent Ponsot has run the estate since 1983. He spends most of his time in the vineyard. For him, healthy grapes are the most important component in the making of very good wine. In general, the beginning of his harvest starts later than his neighbouring producers. He waits until the grape has reached full maturity and sometimes even longer. He has only one rule in his vinification process: not to follow any rules. His wines are powerful, rich with a lot of flavours and aromas.
