Quinta de Couselo is a picturesque estate in the O Rosal subzone of Galicia’s Rías Baixas appellation, rooted in history and Atlantic terroir. With vineyard origins dating back to Cistercian monks in 1163 and family ownership from the 19th century, this nine-hectare property was revitalized in 2013 by José Manuel Martínez Juste, president of the Galician Winemakers’ Association, and integrated into the Grandes Pagos Gallegos group . Soils of sedimentary granite and slate, combined with a cool, misty coastal climate, support pergola- and trellis-trained Albariño vines aged 15–40 years, along with small parcels of Caíño Blanco and Loureiro.

Winemaking at Quinta de Couselo reflects a commitment to precision and terroir expression. Grapes are hand-harvested into small crates, cooled, sorted, and gently pressed before fermenting with native yeasts in stainless steel. Wines age on fine lees—typically six months for the core Albariño and four months for their single vineyard Turonia—yielding bright, mineral-driven whites with saline freshness. Critics praise their balance and clarity: the 2022 O Rosal Albariño earned 91 points from Wine Enthusiast for its pear, apricot, jasmine, and passion fruit layers, while analysis extols their “textbook maritime salinity” and vibrant stone fruit aromatics. Under Juste’s stewardship, Quinta de Couselo continues to make limited production Albariños that vividly express Galicia’s rugged, coastal terroir.
