Felton Road Bannockburn Pinot Noir

Felton Road farms four properties totalling 32 hectares in the Bannockburn sub-region of Central Otago. This wine is a blend from three vineyards; Cornish Point, Calvert and The Elms. The estate follows a strict policy of 100% organic and biodynamic viticulture. This ensures that the fruit arrives to the winery as pure as it can be- they have a commitment to hands off wine making.

"The aroma leads to a bright and lifted combination of red and dark fruits with considerable florals. On the palate, there is a combination of transparency, power and tension. The silky entry of spice and
savoury notes expand to pure, deep fruits, braced with acidity, but luscious throughout. The frame is a finely woven latticework: intricate and detailed with a strong sense of longevity. This exemplary wine is a blend of our four properties that elegantly expresses the graceful and more subtle side of Pinot Noir from Bannockburn." Winemakers Note, July 2018

"Elegant, fresh and vibrant, this red starts off wonderfully perfumed, with lavender, white pepper and green tea notes that accentuate the purity of the cherry and raspberry flavors. Polished tannins still provide some grip on the finish, where white truffle and forest floor details linger. Drink now through 2032."Number 12 on the Top 100 Wines of 2018, 96 points, Wine Spectator

"Aromatic pinot noir with spice, plum and violet aromas that are joined by liquorice, prune and subtle nutty oak on the palate. Dense, intense wine with strong sweet fruit restrained by subtle tannins. A rich, almost chewy wine, with impressive underlying power. Best served slightly chilled to temper fruit sweetness." 95 points, Bob Campbell MW

"Complex, brambly red-cherry and red-plum aromas with a lightly sappy, forest-floor edge. The palate has a super smooth array of vibrant red cherries and a clearly defined, layered texture. Drink now." 94 points, James Suckling

"A scented and rather delicate expression sitting lightly in the mouth, but there's no mistaking the density of the mid-palate. There's a slight warmth on the medium-length finish, which offers black cherry and oak-derived Christmas spice. Overall this has lovely harmony and poise. Drinking Window 2019 - 2025." 92 points, Decanter Magazine

"The 2017 Bannockburn Pinot Noir has a lovely, understated bouquet with blackberry and briary aromas and a subtle earthy/forest floor note loitering in the wings. The palate is well balanced with fine tannin and gentle grip in the mouth, but nothing overly powerful. It is a "natural" Pinot Noir leaning towards a broodier style, yet clearly very well made and expressive of its terroir. Excellent." 91 points, Vinous
