The Yountville vineyard forms the heart of this Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, while the Rutherford and Calistoga vineyards round out the blend. To boost complexity, Grgich relies on a traditional Bordeaux blend of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, with a dash of Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
"Most of this wine comes from Yountville, with contributions from Rutherford and Calistoga as well. The freshness of Yountville is there in the front of the wine, fragrant, herbal and refined. Then there’s full ripeness that brings depth to the flavors and juicy tannins to the finish. Distinctly meaty, with an iron-like warmth, this should gain complexity with several years of bottle age." 91 points, Wine & Spirits
Mike Grgich - who found fame as the wine maker for Chateau Montelena's winning Chardonnay from the Judgement in Paris tasting of 1976 - was awarded Outstanding Wine, Beer or Spirits Professional by the James Beard Foundation in 2018. He continues at the age of 95 to turn out vintage after vintage of the finest Napa Valley wines at his Grgich Hills estate in Rutherford.
