Laherte-Freres Rose de Saignee 'les Beaudieres'

Aurelian Laherte's lip-smacking Rosé de Saignée is crafted from 100% Pinot Meunier drawn from multiple plots within Chavot's east-facing 'Les Beaudiers' terroir. His fruit - from old vines planted in 1953, 1958, and 1965 - is macerated for 12 hours, wild fermented and aged for 6 months on large format oak.

It's a ripe, pure saignée Champagne, with deep, crystalline raspberry fruit, torn mint leaf flavours and a nip of tannin on the finish. Dosed with less than 5 g/l, it's an extra brut, this is at once, a both enormously enjoyable and studiously complex study of the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay. The flavours are deep and boldly sketched throughout. Dark red cherry pit, plum, pomegranate, smoke, mint and wild flowers meld into the huge, deeply resonant finish. This is a fabulous Champagne that shows what Rosé de Saignée is all about.
