A landmark release from Midleton Very Rare, the Irish Chestnut Edition explores an entirely new direction for Irish whiskey maturation. A selection of light, medium and heavy Single Pot Still whiskeys was initially matured in American oak bourbon barrels for between 12 and 19 years, before being brought together and transferred into specially crafted Irish sweet chestnut hogsheads

The chestnut was sourced from the historic Cappoquin Estate in County Waterford, where six trees were selected before the timber was air dried for two years, coopered into hogsheads and lightly toasted.…

The resulting whiskey is exceptionally rich and distinctive, combining honeyed red apple and caramelised orange with chocolate, toffee, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon and sandalwood. The palate builds through orchard fruit, chocolate and herbs into peppery pot still spice, with chestnut bringing firmer tannins, nutty dryness and an earthy wood character. Bottled at cask strength and non chill filtered, this is a genuinely pioneering expression of Midleton Very Rare.
