Founded in 1864, Vega Sicilia is arguably Spain's most prestigious wine estate and one of the great names of the wine world. Its reputation was built on extraordinarily long-lived wines, meticulous vineyard selection and an unusually patient approach to maturation.

Valbuena 5º is Vega Sicilia's younger expression, although "younger" is very much relative here. The name refers to the wine's five-year journey of maturation before release, compared with the considerably longer ageing of the estate's flagship Único. Valbuena offers a particularly pure expression of the estate and vintage, combining the power of Ribera del Duero with the polish, complexity and longevity for which Vega Sicilia is renowned.

Tempranillo (97%)

Tempranillo is also known as Ull de Llebre, Cencibel, Tinto Fino and Tinta del Pais in Spain, Aragonez, Aragonês or Tinta Roriz in Portugal, among several other synonyms. It is a black grape variety widely grown to make full-bodied red wines in the Iberian Peninsula.

Merlot (3%)

One of the world’s most widely planted and approachable red grape varieties, forming the backbone of many wines from Bordeaux, particularly on the Right Bank. Known for its generous fruit and soft texture, it typically shows flavours of plum, black cherry and blackberry, often complemented by notes of chocolate, spice and subtle herbs. Medium to full bodied with smooth tannins and moderate acidity, Merlot produces wines that are supple, rounded and easy to enjoy, both on their own and as part of a blend. It plays a key role in adding richness and approachability to Bordeaux wines, while in warmer regions it can deliver plush, fruit-forward styles, and in cooler climates, more structured and elegant expressions.
